Title: Accreditation Deadline Lives
Posted on: 07/28/2008
Description:

CMS has confirmed that September 30, 2009, will remain the date for which all DMEPOS suppliers must be accredited to bill Medicare. Prior to enactment of the recently-passed HR 6331, suppliers were told to be accredited, or have applied for accreditation, by July 21, 2008 to be eligible to submit a bid for the second round of competitive bidding. Second rounders were also told to be fully accredited by January 14, 2009 if they wished to be eligible for a second round contract. CMS cancelled both of these deadlines and they no longer apply.

CMS made the announcement in light of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 enacted on July 15, 2008. The new law passed due to a veto override and delayed the competitive bidding program by as much as 18 to 24 months. For information about the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding program, CMS encourages providers to visit their Web site.
